
Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. In 1833, Jackson Township contained three gristmills and two saw mills. It is one of 37 Jackson townships statewide.

Stark County's Jackson Township was named for Andrew Jackson, a major general in the War of 1812 and later the seventh President of the United States (1829–1837), who was at the height of his popularity in 1815 when the Township was formed. The unincorporated community of Marchand lies in the township's northeast. Three municipalities are located in Jackson Township: a small part of the city of Massillon in the southwest, a very small portion of the city of North Canton in the northeast, and the village of Hills and Dales in the southeast. Located in the northwestern part of the county, it borders the following townships and cities: The 2020 census found 43,067 people in the township.
